“My legal career began in the Philippines and has expanded to the United States. Today I help Texas families — especially Filipino-American families and clients with cross-border estates — protect what they have built across two countries.”
Biography
Therese Gutierrez
I am Therese Gutierrez, an estate planning and probate attorney at WG Law in McKinney. I work with families on wills, trusts, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, probate administration, and international estate matters. Many of my clients are Filipino-American families who want their estate plan to make sense across both Texas law and the realities of supporting family in the Philippines. Others are cross-border investors, immigrant business owners, and Texas families who simply want a lawyer who will sit with them, listen carefully, and explain things clearly.
My path to Texas law was not the conventional one. I earned my Juris Doctor from San Beda College Alabang, one of the Philippines' most respected law schools, in 2017, and built my early career as a Philippine attorney from 2017 to 2023 with experience across business, banking, international, and eminent domain matters. I joined WG Law in 2023, completed my Master of Laws (LL.M.) at Texas A&M University School of Law in 2024, and was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2025. Few law school journeys span two legal systems, two languages, and two continents. Mine has shaped how I think about every estate plan I draft.
An estate plan should not stop at the border. The families I serve live in two countries at once, and the law that protects them needs to keep up.
What I bring to a Texas estate plan is a sense for the international layer that other attorneys often miss. If you have property or family in the Philippines or anywhere outside the United States, if you are weighing whether to title assets in Texas or abroad, if a parent's care decisions need to be coordinated across countries, or if you simply want a lawyer who speaks your language — literally and figuratively — I would like to meet you. I work with clients in English, Filipino, or Tagalog, in whichever language helps them think most clearly about the people they love most.
Outside my law practice I am also a competitive shooting sports leader. I serve as a Statutes Committee Member of the Asian Shooting Confederation and as Vice President for International Affairs and a Board Trustee of the Philippine National Shooting Association. The discipline of shooting sports — the focus, the rules, the patience required to do something correctly under pressure — translates more directly to estate law than people might guess.
At WG Law I work alongside Taylor Willingham, Carla Alston, Stephan Hwang, and Philip Burgess to make sure every Texas family — regardless of where they came from or where they still hold property — has an estate plan that actually does what they intended. If that is the kind of plan your family needs, I would be honored to meet you.
